Marine Corps Air Station Miramar,Calif. -- Marines, Sailors and family members attended a San Diego Chargers military appreciation day aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Aug. 27.
The event allowed Service members and families a chance to see the level of support and appreciation the Chargers have for the military.
“All of us need support and this is the Chargers’ way to show us that they believe in who we are and what we are all about,” said Col. John Farnam, MCAS Miramar commanding officer.
The Chargers shared the field with the air station’s football team, the Miramar Falcons, and participated in various drills.
“It feels great because you don’t get to do this on a daily basis, and it breaks up the monotony of what we do,” said Derek Nichols, Falcons’ quarterback. “To be able to come out and have some fun with these guys is great.”
After practice, the Chargers socialized with fans and signed autographs.
“For the Chargers to take time out of their busy schedule, right before the season kicks off, to come out to Miramar to play with the Miramar Falcons and then meet all of our families,” added Farnam. “Who could ask for more?”
The event ended with Service members and families waving goodbye to the Chargers and wishing the Chargers a successful season.
