Lieutenant Gen. David H. Berger assumes command of the I Marine Expeditionary Force July 11 in a 10 a.m PT ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. Berger will assume command from Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan, who has served as commander since 2012.

When directed, I MEF deploys and is employed as a Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) in support of Combatant Commander (COCOM) requirements for contingency response or Major Theater War and serves as the core element of a Joint Task Force (JTF).
