Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Southern Command officially kicked off their 2019 deployment with an opening ceremony at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, June 21, 2019. Approximately 300 U.S. Marines and Sailors with SPMAGTF-SC deployed to Latin America along with partner nation officers in their staff. This deployment helps facilitate partner nation capabilities to conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts in case of a natural disaster. The deployment will serve as a major step in developing a Multinational Maritime Task Force that will enhance disaster response in and around Latin America and the Caribbean.
