Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit participate in a physical training event honoring Sgt. Rafael Peralta on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 15, 2019. Peralta gave his life during Operation Phantom Fury in 2004 to save the lives of his fellow Marines, so every Nov. 15 on the anniversary of his death the 31st MEU holds an event honoring him. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
