U.S. Marines with 1st Marine Division work together with members of the 1st Marine Division, Republic of Korea Marine Corps, during Freedom Shield 24 in Pohang, South Korea, Feb. 22-27, 2024. As part of Freedom Shield, both commands set up a combined command post and ROK Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Ju Il-suk, the commanding general for 1st Marine Division, ROK Marine Corps, toured the command post. Freedom Shield 24 is a defense-oriented exercise designed to bolster the ROK-U.S. alliance, enhance the combined defense posture, and further strengthen security and stability on the Korean peninsula.
