Leave a comment below letting us know what other #AviationAcademics you’d like us to cover!--------------------------------------------“C” is for CH-53E Super Stallion – The CH-53E incorporates a multitude of functions including a Global Positioning System; Doppler radar; forward looking infra-red and night vision imaging systems; and heads up displays. It’s capable of firing 7.62mm and 50. caliber weaponry. The heavy lift helicopter is capable of carrying 16 tons of cargo approximately 50 miles to zone and back or carry enough Marines for assault missions or humanitarian operations. The CH-53E is compact enough to deploy on amphibious assault ships and has the armaments, speed and agility to qualify as much more than a heavy lift helicopter. 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing carries three units who pilot the CH-53E Super Stallion: Heavy Attack Helicopter Squadron 464. Heavy Attack Helicopter Squadron 461 and Heavy Attack Helicopter Squadron 366, Marine Aircraft Group 29.
