KA-BAR and the Marine Corps

On December 9, 1942, after the start of World War II, KA-BAR submitted a knife to the United States Marine Corps in hopes that it would become a general issue to that branch of the military. The USMC KA-BAR was adopted by the Marines as well as the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Underwater Demolition Teams. Years after World War II, many KA-BAR knives were unofficially reactivated in the Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom conflicts. Various aviation units from 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and military members from 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, 1 Wing Kingston, 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, participate in service-level training events to include Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 1-20, and Marine Air Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise (MWX) 1-20 at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., from Sept., to Nov. 2019. The purpose of ITX is to create a challenging, realistic training environment that produces combat-ready forces capable of operating as a Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and to prepare units to participate in MWX. Award Ceremony for Cpl. Zacrey Sims

On December 5th, Cpl. Zacrey Sims was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal by Brig. Gen. Glynn and Sgt. Maj. Carter for heroic achievement and actions taken on July 7th, 2019. Cpl. Sims approached a car accident with an enflamed vehicle and coordinated with bystanders to put the fire out. When Cpl. Sims approached the second vehicle, he was able to pull out the driver and confirm that she was deceased. Upon searching the vehicle for further occupants, he found a 7 year old child and pulled him out, and stabilized him until paramedics arrived. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Devon Burton)
