On March 3, 1776, the U.S. Marine Corps conducted its inaugural amphibious landing, raiding New Providence in the Bahamas to seize British gunpowder. This event established the foundation of the Marine Corps as America’s premiere expeditionary force, capable of launching decisive assaults from the sea.
