Okinawa is well known for its beautiful beaches. The last thing anyone wants to visualize while admiring the ocean’s natural wonders is caught in the natural conditions of tides and overwhelming currents. Staff Sgt. Billy C. Dixson, a recovery crew leader with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, was enjoying his time in Mermaid’s Grotto, a popular diving location, on October 4, when he noticed a woman frantically signaling him for help. The woman herself was not in danger, but her friend, Ms. Miyagi, a member of the local Okinawa community, was losing a battle with a rip current. The primary mission of Marine Corps Systems Command is to equip Marines. However, this work is not complete upon fielding. MCSC is also responsible for sustainment throughout the lifecycle of the equipment. Sustainment requires communication with fleet Marines to continuously improve the gear. Setting the Example: 31st MEU Marines clean up Kin Blue beach

Reveille was at 0530 on the morning of July 25th; platoon internal training with Combined Anti-Armor Team 1 concluded the night prior. The Marines were all tired and ready to go home, but CAAT 1 had one more task to complete. After spending three full days and nights patrolling and practicing basic infantry skills in the heat, CAAT 1 spent the morning clearing the beach from trash and debris that had washed up on the beach over time. Marines and Sailors that use the training area are expected to clean it after the completion of training, but CAAT 1 decided to take it a step further and clean the beach and all the washed-up trash as well. The Marines were happy to volunteer and show appreciation to the community...

Remains of missing Marines, Sailor successfully recovered

The remains of seven Marines and a Sailor were successfully recovered August 7, after underwater salvage operations following the July 30 mishap involving an amphibious assault vehicle off the coast of San Clemente Island. The recovered Marines and Sailor will soon be transferred to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, for preparation by mortuary affairs teams for burial. Marine and Navy pallbearers will place the remains aboard an aircraft bound for Dover AFB in a solemn transfer. From Dover AFB, their remains will then be released to their families in accordance with their wishes.
